Ils ont peu \u00e0 peu sculpt\u00e9 des sc\u00e8nes la\u00efques de la vie quotidienne. Leurs masques sont issus de la tradition mais ont une lecture contemporaine. Ils sont ici s\u00e9cularis\u00e9s et n&rsquo;ont aucune vertu originelle. Ce sont aujourd&rsquo;hui des \u0153uvres d&rsquo;art africain contemporain \u00e0 part enti\u00e8re.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph; background: white; margin: 0cm 0cm 7.5pt 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">Chez les Yoruba, les masques Gu\u00e9l\u00e9d\u00e9 sont construits sur le m\u00eame principe : un visage (type masque casque) et une sc\u00e8ne qui se d\u00e9veloppe sur le dessus du masque. Ils sont utilis\u00e9s dans le cadre de mascarades d\u00e9di\u00e9es aux femmes dans leur dimension maternelle.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph; background: white; margin: 0cm 0cm 7.5pt 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">Ces masques, \u00e0 l&rsquo;origine, n&rsquo;\u00e9taient pas con\u00e7us pour \u00eatre port\u00e9s sur le visage, mais attach\u00e9s au-dessus de la t\u00eate. Ils poss\u00e8dent une patine qui, au premier abord, leur donne une apparence de terre cuite. Les masques G\u00e9l\u00e9d\u00e9 poss\u00e8dent, dans leur structure raffin\u00e9e, le pouvoir de transmettre des r\u00e9cits de c\u00e9r\u00e9monies, et des fables \u00e9piques peupl\u00e9es d&rsquo;animaux, de mythes ancestraux, d&rsquo;\u00e9pisodes de la vie quotidienne. Ces \u0153uvres ont perdu leur fonction rituelle mais permettent, comme des ic\u00f4nes, la survie des histoires mythiques du royaume du
